ABOUT

Dmitrij Gornowskij was born in Kazakhstan and began his studies with his father, Anatolij Gornowskij and the age of 7. He studied at the Almaty State Conservatory and the Almaty State Music Academy by prof. Nurlan Dolbaev, then received classes from Igor Gavrish, Valentin Feigin and Maria Tschaikovskaja at the Moscow Conservatorium. He went on to win first prize in the International Music Competition in Ashkhabad and the appointment of principal cellist in the Academy of Soloists, directed by Aiman Musakhodzhaeva.


Dmitrij has appeared with the International Orchestra of Germany, Russian Chamber Philharmonic St.Petersburg, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Philharmonic Cologne, Collegium Noricum Nuremberg, Filharmonia

Bogata and the SOI Symphonie Orchestra of India both as a soloist and principal cellist. He has also appeared in the Strasbourg and Edinburgh music festivals, the Audi Classic Open Air Music Festival, the Haydn Festival in Seoul and the Interfest - Bitola Music Festival in Macedonia.


Dmitrij has collaborated with colleagues from many differing musical styles and genres, including Giora Feidman, Nigel Kennedy, Yuri Bashmet, Liana Isakadze, Dmitri Berlinsky, Sir James Galway and Mischa Maisky. In 2010 he joined the Gershwin String Quartet and performs regular concerts with them throughout Europe.


In 2005 Dmitrij formed the Almati Duo with internationally acclaimed pianist Amir Tebenikhin. They have released three albums together with a fourth album, 'Capriccio,' having been recently recorded together with violinist Hayley Bullock. 'Capriccio' features the premiere of music by the English composer David Lewiston Sharpe. This album is scheduled for release in 2021.

He plays a beautiful 18th century Italian cello, maker unknown, gifted to him by his father Anatolij Gornowskij.
